Trusting God Through Career Uncertainty

Jonnell Myren has a heart for helping people, just one of the many reasons she became a nurse. She says, “I like trying to help patients, show them kindness when they're not feeling well. Educate them. I'm always trying to teach them about their health.” Another way Jonnell likes helping people is through CBN, so she became a partner in 2003. She believes,  “They have worldwide reach with all that they do. And that was exciting. They bring the help and then with that, they bring the love of Jesus.”

After working as a nurse in Michigan for 10 years, Jonnell moved back to her native state of California in 2010, that’s when her career hit a roadblock. California required six months of supervised nursing observation before Jonnell could apply for her license to practice there. She recalls, “It was a little frightening at first to come to California and know that I have a whole other thing to get beyond another hurdle. Money disappears pretty quickly when you come back, and you don't have a job.” So, she prayed, believing God would provide a job. After living off her savings for a while, Jonnell was offered a position with on-the-job supervision so she could continue her nursing career. She recalls, “I was very excited.  I can see how God is directing my path, my course, my steps, guiding me just all the way along.”

Trusting God is something Jonnell’s been practicing most of her life … especially in regard to her finances. She says,  “When you tithe and you give into God's kingdom and you're helping with His efforts, and you will be blessed.” Over the years, as her salary increased, Jonnell has increased her donations to CBN and in 2022, she became a $2500 club member. Today she’s still as excited as ever about the work CBN is doing. Jonnell says,  “I just appreciate when they come in, a person needs help, they need a surgery, you know, maybe their house is burnt down, they need supplies. They come in, they bring that stuff in.  I can't go out and meet everybody and tell them about Jesus. And so, CBN can, that's what they do. And that's just exciting to me. I wanted to be a part of that.” Jonnell encourages others to trust God with their finances. She says,  “Take courage, give freely. Don't worry about what's gonna happen. Trust that the Lord's got you. More opportunities will swing open when you are willing to just take that little step. He's so good. He will help you every step of your journey.”

Psalm 41:1 says, “Blessed is he who considers the poor; the LORD will deliver Him in time of trouble.” When you partner with CBN, you do more than just give to the poor. You provide hope and the love of Christ through life-giving surgeries, food and clothing programs, humanitarian aid, and so much more!
