Superbook Helped Zlata Rediscover Childhood

When war broke out in Ukraine, seven-year-old Zlata’s world changed overnight. She comes from Kherson, a city that endured months of fear under occupation. For a little girl who had just begun to explore life—making friends in kindergarten, sharing toys, and laughing on playgrounds—the joy of childhood was suddenly replaced by terror.

Instead of children’s voices, there was the roar of shelling. Instead of a cozy bed, there were four days in a cold basement. Four months of occupation drained the colors from her world, leaving only fear and confusion. When her family finally escaped to Germany, Zlata wasn’t just in a new country—she was in an unfamiliar world. Surrounded by strangers, a foreign language, and a completely different environment, she withdrew into silence. Her lively eyes lost their spark, and her laughter fell quiet.

It seemed as though Zlata had built an invisible wall around her heart to protect herself from a world that had already betrayed her.

A Breakthrough with Superbook

Everything began to change when Zlata encountered a local church community and joined the Superbook Club. This was exactly the place that could reach her guarded heart.

The club’s interactive lessons brought Bible stories to life through the colorful animated films of CBN Animation’s Superbook. Afterward, the children played games, sang songs, and crafted together. At first, Zlata simply observed. Then she quietly started singing along. Soon, she was joyfully participating in the games. Step by step, her invisible wall began to crumble.

One of the clearest signs of her transformation came when her favorite cartoon hero—Gizmo—visited her town. The girl who had recently been afraid to say even a word now bombarded him with questions out of sheer curiosity:

“How old is he?” “How long does his battery last?” “Which languages does he speak?”

These simple questions were a powerful testimony of an inner victory over fear and isolation.

Faith Restores What War Tried to Steal

Inspired by her experiences at the Superbook Club, Zlata began attending other activity groups. Her joy for life returned with renewed energy. She easily formed friendships with children of different nationalities, and her mind began to flourish again.

But the greatest change happened in her heart. Together with her mother, Zlata now reads from a children’s Bible, and a new spiritual world has opened up for her. With childlike sincerity, she has grown to love the Lord and asks profound questions, such as:

“Mama, what role does Jesus play in our lives?”

Her story is a testament to how God’s love—through ministries like CBN Animation’s Superbook—can heal the soul of a little child, restore joy, rebuild trust, and ignite a light of hope that nothing can extinguish.
