Restoring a Home and a Heart
When a flash flood hit Kerrville, Texas, on July 4th, 2025, Lindsey and her son, Jack, escaped their flooded home, but were separated as they were swept down river. Then they heard each other as they clung to trees.
Lindsey said, “I could hear him in the tree saying, ‘I'm okay. I'm safe.’ And I was holding onto my tree and I said, ‘I'm really not okay.’”
Debris gashed the back of Lindsey’s leg, and the raging waters drained her strength.
“I was screaming, ‘God, still the waters! I know You can. I know You can calm the seas! I know You can stop the rain!’ And I'm screaming prayers,” excailmed Lindsey.
Hours later, they were rescued and Lindsey’s leg was treated at a hospital. However, they couldn’t go home, because their windows were busted out, walls were covered with mold, and floors were damaged beyond repair. Then Operation Blessing volunteers arrived.
Lindsey starteed getting emotional as she explained, “There are people here that are loving and kind and generous and care, helping us rebuild gives me so much peace. People working their hearts out to get those floors up. I know it was probably the worst job they could have come to out here, and I'm eternally grateful. I mean, I know, I don't know what we would have done without these volunteers.”
The work is progressing well, and soon, Lindsey and her family will be able to move back home.
“Coming home, I can't wait to come home,” said Lindsey. “It's going to, it's going to be really good for us. It's going to be really healing. And I think we're finally going to just feel peace.”
