No Longer Alone in Jerusalem

Salwah, an Arab Christian from Jerusalem in her 80s, lives a quiet life, now alone after losing her closest family. Though her apartment, neighborhood, and health have faded over the years, she still cherishes her weekly coffee outing and peaceful Sundays at church. Reflecting on her recent hardships, Salwah shared: “In the last few years things have changed drastically for me. I don’t go out much, because of my health issues. It seems life was put on pause.”

Salwah never had children, so aging brought its share of hardships, made far worse by the ongoing war in Israel. She relies on government care after suffering heart issues and a broken hip. However, the emotional toll of conflict is heavy: “The war has been difficult. The sirens are scary. Praying is all I can do when the sirens start blaring,” she said.

A social worker referred Salwah to CBN Israel, and we immediately stepped in—repainting her worn home and delivering nourishing groceries to ease her daily burdens. Salwah confessed she never could have done the work herself: “I Couldn’t dream of fixing the apartment, because I wouldn’t even be able to clean it afterwards. I had no one to help,” she explained. “But the guys that did the work helped so much. The caretaker cleaned up after, and CBN staff was very supportive and brought food.”

Thanks to your support, Salwah received an unexpected gift—after years of loss, your help has wrapped her in care and restored a sense of belonging. The transformation was complete: “I’m so happy to be in a clean fresh apartment. It’s a daily joy. I’ve been in this apartment for 25 years, and it feels new now,” she beamed. Salwah’s freshly renovated apartment now mirrors her quiet resilience—a testament to what’s possible when generous CBN Israel donors ensure the elderly receive the care and provision they deserve. She offered her final thanks: “Thank you for being with me. My home feels new, and so does my spirit. May God bless you for what you do and give you the strength to help even more.”
