Comfort for Kids After the Quake

After multiple earthquakes struck the Philippines, people were left devastated. Many lost their homes and their sense of security. Andrew and his little brother were alone in their home when one of them hit. 

Andrew said, “When we feel the earthquake, I was terrified and nervous. We went to somewhere safe. And my little brother was scared.”

Thousands of aftershocks continued days after the initial quakes. Many people lived in tents even if their homes were still standing, afraid they might collapse. 

“There’s still more earthquakes. We were shocked and terrified too,” said Andrew.

Operation Blessing set up medical clinics, providing free check-ups, medicines, and counseling. Knowing the trauma the children had been through, we also showed SuperBook at a clinic to Andrew and his little brother, and their neighbors.

As the children watched SuperBook’s Giant Adventure story, young David asked, “What can one child not do when that child goes with God?”

SuperBook Coordinator, Miguel Germino, explained, “We visited here in Davao Oriental, you know, just to share the Gospel with the kids. We tried to comfort them, to encourage them.”

Continuing to watch the SuperBook story, David said, “I know in my heart God is with me. He’ll give me strength when I need it most.”

Andrew said, “While we were watching, I felt heartwarming that when you have trouble, pray to God and He will give you the strength to do it. I feel good. I’m so very happy with all of my cousins and friends that are now here. Thank you SuperBook, and I hope you are all safe and being blessed with our God, Jesus. Thank you.”
